Now what's that rascally young boy up to this time? Seems like Tom Sawyer is always getting himself in or out of trouble. His wild imagination and hilarious antics have given his Aunt Polly more gray hairs than she can count. Like the time Tom gave the cat a stiff dose of Pain-killer...or the time the schoolmaster caught him and Joe Harper pestering a pet tick during class...or the time Tom and Joe and Huck Finn ran away from home to become pirates on the Mississippi..

Commentary on Boyhood

Obviously archaic language for the modern reader.

An enjoyable read I found slow at times. I think Twain did a great job of portraying childhood - though I'm not sure I'd have enjoyed this book as a kid as much as others I did rate.

I enjoyed the small chunks of plot, and how atmospheric the settings were throughout the book. Twain did an excellent job of portraying childish emotion and motivation.

I'm not sure I perceived the mastery of this work, though.
